WHY CHOOSE GROW COUNSELLING

The hope of thriving is held for all people who attend therapy at Grow Counselling. Some people may seek counselling in crisis or during difficult times while others want to achieve their best selves or do performance enhancement work. Whatever your reason for therapy we are here to support you to connect with yourself and others, heal trauma and adverse experiences, and thrive rather than just survive.

At Grow Counselling we believe that clinical therapy is best when stigma free. To help create an environment where people of all ages feel comfortable we have intentionally placed our office away from down town and not in a traditional office building. The neutral feeling of the location allows young children to not experience their behavioral and emotional challenges in a pathologizing manner or develop the belief that they “have something wrong with them” or that they “need to be fixed.” The thought of “needing to be fixed” or “illness” may be associated with medical offices. A place to talk and play is not typically associated with wrongness, otherness, or illness. Our location allows for a unique outdoor space including, grassy area to play and a forest trail on the property as well as a playroom. The picturesque drive into the property can allow people to enjoy nature even before their appointment starts.

Some unique styles of therapy that are provided are, Animal Assisted Interventions, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and play therapy. All of these modalities can be used with people of all ages.

If you have a child or youth in your life who is apprehensive or resistant to therapy they we welcomed here. Or perhaps you are hesitant yourself. With client centered approaches strong will and negative experiences with therapy in the past can still lead to growth and comfort over time. Not all therapy requires talking about your past or disclosing uncomfortable information. Healing can happen without words.

We have the belief that all people should have access to therapy and support groups. And while this is not currently reality in BC we hope to increase access by offering sliding scale spots for individual and family therapy, group counselling, non-clinical art groups, and group parent support sessions. Group sessions can teach skills to decrease the time and money spent in individual session or be used as stand alone supports. If you are interested in a sliding scale spot please write to tell us about your self, your motivation to seek therapy, and why Grow Counselling feels like the right fit.

We welcome Frist Nations Health Authority & Crime Victim Assistance Program clients.
